Aviotech successfully completed the first flight test phase of Cirrus SR22 based UAS demonstrator (EDTM; March 10th, 2025). The company Aviotech GmbH (Germany) developed a flight control system demonstrator1 for UAS aiming for type certification. After the integration into the Cirrus SR22 of the University of Stuttgart (Germany), the first phase of flight testing covered all normal flight procedures. Next steps are the complementaion of the flight tests for automatic takeoff and landing as well as the flight tests for contingency and emergency procedures (loss of link, loss of engine, …). First flights without a safety pilot on board are scheduled for 2026.
The highly fault-tolerant control system is designed and implemented with Aviotech’s unique Artificial Engineering Tool Suite. This tool suite allows a highly automated system and software design of the control platform including all failure and redundancy management tasks. It automatically instantiates the corresponding software, generates the associated tests and executes them. Additionally, it automatically generates all certification relevant design and verification documents. This significantly reduces the development and certification effort.
